Joining New Yarn

Hello knitters,

Here is yet another oustanding excerpt from "The Beginning Knitters Guide" The book and all of it's awesome bonuses that come with it are on special offer right now. I have place a link on this side of my blog for your convenience. I hope you like it and happy knitting.

Joining New Yarn

If you are knitting a larger project, it is inevitable that you will have to join a new ball of yarn to an old one. It is usually best to add a new ball of yarn at the beginning of a row.

If you have to add new yarn, loosely tie a knot with the new yarn being tied around the old yarn. Leave a tail of about 4 inches.

Then slide the knot up the tail of the old yarn to get it as close as possible to your work.

Practicing Techniques

Take some time out to try each of the techniques described in this chapter. While it may be tempting to go out and buy a pattern after doing a few stitches, you should try and create some swatches. When you first get started your stitches will not be very consistent, but over time and with practice your knitting will look like you’ve been knitting forever.

Over the next few pages we will be going over some troubleshooting so that when you run into a bit of a snag (really, no pun intended), you will be able to make some adjustments to get it right. First, though, we’ll learn a little bit about gauge…

Have fun and happy knitting

Brad
